Experience

  • I have been in Private and Independent Practice for the last 5 years. This includes working with

    • Children and young people in care of the Local Authority.

    • Children and young people with adoption histories.

    • Art Therapists in training.

    • Adults with a range of experience and need, including learning disability and physical disability.

  • I worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) for 7 years and have experience of inpatient and community Adult Mental Health Services.

  • I spent 3 years working in the care sector with adults with complex needs including learning disability, sensory impairment and mental health difficulties.

  • My voluntary experience includes art workshops with adults with brain injury, and running clay workshops in schools.

  • Integrating Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy and elements of Polyvagal Theory into my practice.

  • I have had my own personal therapy.

I am an artist working in a range of media for painting, collage and sculpture. My passion is for clay and the huge variety of processes and techniques it offers. It is difficult for people who could benefit from this particular material to access claywork / pottery in school and health settings so I pleased to be able to do this from my Art Room.

How I can help

I can help children and adults who

  • Sense they want things to be different, are motivated to make changes and realise they need help to do this. You are taking the first step and that is wonderful.

  • Have faced/are facing times which are challenging for them. Sometimes it takes a while or certain events before early life experiences catch up with us.

  • Feel anxious, lost, stuck or overwhelmed.

  • Notice that they do and say things which are hurtful for themselves and others but feel unable to make changes.

  • Find it hard to talk about thoughts and feelings and need other ways to express and communicate what is troubling them and what they want to change and to plan a future.

  • I am privileged to work with people from many walks of life with a range of strengths and needs.

  • You do not need to have any experience of art or materials to access the benefits of Art Therapy

I do not make diagnoses but have extensive experience of children and adults with diagnoses including

  • Anxiety

  • Low mood and depression

  • Neurodivergence, ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia

  • Complex and Developmental Trauma

I work alongside my clients as they  find their process, moving at a pace that is manageable for   them. For some children and adults this will mean making use of art materials and processes.   Others prefer to talk things through. Most people do a mixture of both.

We will meet in my Art Room (pictured) which is not a typical clinical space. Clients tell me it feels safe and comfortable there and that they really value having choices in how they explore and communicate what is on their mind. It may be the first time they have really shown or said out loud what their experiences have been, or what their worst fears or hopes and dreams are.
