Do you have to be good at art ?
Next Steps
You do not need to be 'good' at art or have any experience with materials to benefit from Art Therapy. Some people simply enjoy the environment of an art space, others want to explore and enjoy experimenting and others find themselves hooked on a particular material or process that they take with them beyond therapy.
It is important to find the right therapist for you, or your child or young person.
If you think that I may be the right therapist for you the next step is to get in touch. You may use the contact form or email or call me.
Free 20 min consultation online. This is available to parents, carers and professionals seeking Art Therapy for a child or young person . It is a useful way of seeing if we will work well together.
First session. If you want to proceed we will get started asap.

How long is each session ?
How often will we meet ?
How long will I be in therapy ?
Each session for individual art therapy lasts up to 60 mins.

We would usually meet once a week - setting a consistent and reliable day and time is important.

How long a person is in therapy varies a great deal from a few sessions to years. Some people take breaks from therapy and are welcome to get back in touch as needed.
Where do sessions take place ?

We will meet in my Art Room (pictured), which is not a typical clinical space. Clients tell me it feels safe and comfortable there and that they really value having choices in how they explore and communicate what is on their mind.

I find DDP to be a really helpful model for understanding trauma as experience and emotion rather than as something inherently wrong with the person .
DDP helps us understand what trauma is and how it impacts the lives of children, young people and adults.
I draw on it to offer adults information and strategies for understanding themselves, their young people and how they are relating to one another.

I use PVT to help clients, parents, carers and schools understand how our nervous systems influence the way we think, feel and behave.
A key part of the work I do with children and adults is to help them get to know and trust their nervous system through use of art materials, play and story.

Art Therapy + DDP + PVT is an excellent combination for all ages and abilities.
